Making Your Beats Count…Start by Mastering Your Genre

Of course, don’t take this advice to the extreme and challenge yourself into developing a totally new genre. While that’s definitely attainable, you might have to develop your repertoire a bit first. Meanwhile, there’s nothing wrong with devoting your time to polishing your skills and broadening your understanding of your chosen genre. Go ahead and dive into your friends’ works and see if that motivates you into forming your own music beats greater than before.

By devoting your time to be proficient in your genre, you have already placed yourself a step ahead of equally debuting musicians and enhancing your potential as a music artist.

One nice thing about the music industry these days is the improved availability to the needed equipment for enthusiastic musicians like you. At present, you don’t need a large mount of money to spend just to get hold of the technology for producing your own music beats.

Creating the right beat for your music consists of three major components: midi drum patterns, audio loops, and bass line. These components appy to any kind of music so it’s important for you to understand how they function and what they can add to your music.

A track’s bass line is its underlying frame. It’s composed of a set of beats or notes that will be played from the song’s start to finish and which the other elements need to work with in order to maintain a sense of harmony.

You can devote as much time as you want improving your bass line. If your bass line won’t work, the rest of the track won’t work either.

The next component you have to focus on is the audio loop. This is a favorite choice among many rap & hip hop makers. They are usually used for adjusting your music’s primary theme or mood. To form one, you’ll just simply combine an array of notes from musical instruments or any other possible source of sound. You can play and experiment however you want until you get the best set of beats.

Finally, you need to produce midi drum patterns that complement the rest of the piece. You can use one set or pattern of notes or merge different sets. Anything can be done as long as it boosts rather than detracts from your work.

But sometimes, midi drum patterns aren’t a pattern at all. Rather, they consist of an assorted set of beats but played as repeating loops as well as acting as something similar to a secondary tier of melody or beat.

To sum up: in creating your beats, always begin with building a convincing bass line to stand as your music’s foundation then strengthening it will evenly well-developed audio loops and one or more midi drum patterns.

Are you geared up to make your beats? Then don’t let anything keep you from producing cool music for the world to hear.
