The American People Support The Public Option
The health care reform debate boils down to two sides. Health insurance industry profits and the health of the American people.
Those on the health insurance side are trying to kill the “public option” because they know it will create competition for the insurance industry which will force them to actually properly care for their customers (which will hurt their bottom line which is all they care about.)
Recent polling shows that most Americans are actually on the side of the health of the American people (surprising, isn’t it?) Despite all of the lies that have been spread by the right wing media (such Fox News) most Americans understand that having more options is a good thing for them and would help to improve their quality of health insurance whether they stick with their private plan or choose the public plan.
According to a new poll, support for the “public option” to be included in health care reform is at 65% among the American people as a whole. How often is this overwhelming support talked about on the news? Not often enough. Cable news spends most of their time focusing on a few ignorant people screaming at Town Hall meetings instead of focusing on the fact that average informed Americans strongly support real health care reform!
Among Democrats support for the “public option” is at 81% for and only 12% against. How is it that with that kind of support there are any Democratic Senators even considering voting against it? That’s insane! Who are they working for? Are they working for the American people or the health insurance industry? Any Senator who votes against the “public option” is making their alliance clear.
What may be surprising is that even a plurality (although not quite a majority) of Republicans support the “public option.” Despite this, not a single Republican Senator seems willing to part from the party line and actually side with their constituents instead of the corporations for once. 47% of Republicans are for it, while only 42% are against.
Among unaffiliated voters, 61% are for and only 30% against. Yes, there’s 2 to 1 support among the all important independent “swing voters” so what on earth are these politicians doing even thinking about voting against it?
This is a real test of our democracy. Who do our Senators work for? Do they work for us, or do they work for the insurance industry. We will find out with their votes on this very important issue.
Resources:
Mr. Wolfe if you were truly a republican you would have noticed that all three of the sources you cited (except for the N.Y. Times poll) come from HealthCareForAmericaNow.org.. That is the POTUS website created by the White House. Also the N.Y. Times is the most liberal newspaper in America today. If you looked at all of the polls, not just the liberals you would see that by a MAJORITY Americans do not want it. The gov’t bankrupt Social Security bankrupt the post office bankrupt Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac evething it touches goes into a deficit. The U.S. dollar is at an all time low, and you propose we create another 3 trillion dollar deficit. Maybe you should run as a Democrat and leave the Republican Party. We need a Conservative not another tax and spend liberal. And as for your support for the public option, 45% of all doctors say they will quit or retire, if it does happen. Our health care system will immediatly suffer from long, long waits to see the doctor. Rationing will occur, just like Canada and U.K.,the U.S. will import more foreign doctors to meet the growing need. There will be less college students seeking medical backgrounds, because they won’t be able to pay for their education and will change their major. The worse thing that the public option brings is there will be no competition because private business owners can’t compete against the gov’t, that can create a deficit eternally, business CANNOT offord it and still pay their employees. You are right only about one thing. “This is a real test of our democracy. Who do our Senators work for? Do they work for us, or do they work for the insurance industry. We will find out with their votes on this very important issue” Many, many Democrats who like you support the public option, will not be re-elected in 2010. You Mr. Wolfe took the wrong side in this. You will not get elected, and don’t waste your money trying, because you are a liberal in Republican clothing.

I also forgot to mention to you since you probably didn’t see any news of it on MSNBC or the N.Y. Times, or any other liberal media,is that the plan the Democrats have that you support, is going to take 550 BILLION $$$$ from Medicare. WV. has the largest population of retirees out of the 50 states. Doctors groups have already stated that they will no longer accept Medicare and Medicaid if this happens. If the gov’t thinks that they can save this much money without it affecting anyone, why don’t they do it now. Why hasn’t it been done already, if there was 550 BILLION dollars that was being wasted by the gov’t then it should have been cut before. The reason it wasn’t is because a 550 billion dollar cut WOULD affect a lot of people. Especially people here in WV. Why don’t you watch FOX News and learn something, before you write what the White House is saying about the only news media organization that questions what is happenning. I would rather vote for a Democrat that sticks to his principals than elect a Republican who has lost his.

YOU LIKE TO SAY FOX LIES. wELL HOW ABOUT RASMUSSEN DO THEY LIE ALSO?
49% Say No Health Care Reform Better Than Current Plan
Friday, October 23, 2009
Forty-nine percent (49%) of voters nationwide say that passing no health care reform bill this year would be better than passing the plan currently working its way through Congress.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 39% disagree and say the current effort is better than doing nothing.
For advocates of reform, this is a bit of an improvement. In August, 54% said doing nothing was the better approach.
Democrats strongly prefer to pass the congressional legislation while Republican voters overwhelmingly say it’s better to do nothing. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 62% say it would be better to do nothing rather than pass the current plan.
The new survey also shows that voters are skeptical that anything will be able to reduce the amount we spend on health care. If the cost of health care services comes down, 42% believe consumers will simply buy more services. Just 31% say reducing the cost of service would actually lead to less spending on health care. Twenty-seven percent (27%) are not sure.
Cost, not universal coverage, is the top priority for most voters, and 54% favor middle class tax cuts over new spending on health care.
These results come at a time when most voters say our health care system needs major changes, but only 42% favor the plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats.
Rasmussen Reports is tracking support for the health care proposal on a weekly basis and will have updated results on Monday morning.
But then 65% of voters say the health care reform plan that emerges from Congress will be mostly what Democrats want. Just 18% of voters disagree and think the plan will be a bipartisan effort.
Sixty-six percent (66%) say free market competition between insurance companies will do more than government regulation to reduce health care costs.
A congressional consensus on health care reform was reported earlier this year, but it received mixed reviews from the public. The consensus hasn’t changed over the past several months, and neither have the views of voters. One reason is skepticism about Congress itself. By a two-to-one margin, voters believe that no matter how bad things are Congress could always make it worse.
Voters also still believe strongly that they understand the overall health care reform proposal better than Congress does.
One reason that Democrats have been careful to distinguish between their reform plan and a single-payer system is that just 32% favor single-payer health care while 57% are opposed.
” According to a new poll, support for the “public option” to be included in health care reform is at 65% among the American people as a whole.”
Where do you get your data from? The Obummer White House? LISTEN TO WHAT REAL AMERICANS ARE SAYING. NOT JUST THE LIBERAL LEFT WING YOU SEEM TO LISTEN TO MOST.
